Confessions Of A Gay Anchorman
Charles Perez has been in the television business for nearly 20 years. Those years have taken him from the most entry level job to a spot front and center at the anchor desk. According to Perez, “Like anyone who’s risen up through their industry, when you go from the bottom up it gives you a very thorough perspective on the industry you work in.” For him, as a gay man, he says the ride from bottom to top also became a journey in compromise as he moved further up the ladder of public exposure and professional success. Eventually, that compromise became intolerable.
In his book, “Confessions of a Gay Anchorman,” Perez chronicles his ride in the television industry from a young and very OUT production assistant to a man who loses his dream job after a very public outing. He says it left him with a new-found conviction to stand up and do the right thing.
In his newfound courage, Perez married his now husband and they adopted their first child, a beautiful little girl who he says, “seemed to descend into our lives like a gift from heaven.” Ironically, this great fortune came as a result of decisions that left his career as a newsman dead on the tracks.
In this book, Perez walks through the many choices and circumstances that brought him to a new place as a husband, a father, a writer and a political being.
